Greetings are heartily extended unto Their Excellencies Vatavia and the gentle populace. As I write this and hope it stays warms, I find that Iâm drawn to address both winter and spring matters.
First, again, I must offer up thanks to Lord Titus for his help in obtaining the winter site. Many thanks to all of the fighters for supporting our being able to keep it through your financial donations and to the many others who helped with set up and disassembly each week. Iâve made the occasional jest about our new Visiting Fighter Program, with recent drop-ins of Sir Kaidu, His Excellency Shattered Crystal, Lord Bjarni, and Sir Halldor. If you havenât been to fighter practice lately, youâre missing a lot! We are now back to our usual digs and time: South Linwood Park, 10 oâclock, Sunday mornings.
Many thanks to House Ravenscroft for the generous donation of a gorget to loaner armor; itâs desperately needed. Weâve also accepted a solid gambeson from one of our âretiredâ former members. Again, thank you.
Renn Fair is rapidly approaching. If none of us have ever said it, we all appreciate the hard work that goes into prepping for Renn Fair as well as the work of the actual weekend. Not a lot of us are public people, and we kind of struggle to find that aspect of ourselves to put on a good show for the public. Thank you for all that takes. The fighters will be following the same protocols as we did during the Fall 2007 fair. Fighters will be authorized in whatever they fight with that day and should be wearing appropriate period attempts at renaissance/medieval clothing (no jeans, blatantly obvious sweats, etc.). For safety reasons, children are not permitted under the fightersâ shadefly. Fighters who havenât fought in awhile, and even those who have fought quite a bit, should be monitoring gear and weapons. Stuff dries out, and weâd hate to bounce you the morning of Renn Fair. The marshallate, as always, will bring changes to your gear to your attention at practice. If sufficient out-of-town marshals are present, weâll run authorizations each morning. However, thereâs always that possibility they may not be available, which leads me to my next pointâŠ
Travel
Travel is good. There are many excellent, day-trippable opportunities in the near future for all of us to go out and see the kingdom a bit. Itâs a good perspective check; you meet other cool people who share your interests; and you stretch your mind and skills. In March through May alone, in the immediate area, thereâs Hibernatus, Equus, Ceilidh, and Melees and Mayhem. Sallyforth and discover what else Calontir has to offer you and yours.
Ever in humble service,
Eleanor
