The Barony of Vatavia in concert with Royal University of Scir Hafoc,

RUSH classes are scheduled for Saturday, August 30.

Classes will be held in the Main Hall, beginning at 9:00 a.m. The schedule or class descriptions are available here for your perusal. Please see either of the above contact Gentles for assistance and further information. Both will be on site at the event.

For Instructors: Please contact one of us and fill out a Form Course info form as much in advance as possible. One month in advance is best. This is used to schedule and prepare for the class. The classes will be scheduled based on the Instructor(s) needs for the class, student needs, and available resources. Volunteer early and often.

For Students: Your learning is our purpose. Please let us know in advance of any special needs or requests for information. If you know of a course you want to see and especially if you know an instructor you want to learn from, contact us at your earliest convenience. Class Descriptions

Wood Turning a Candlestick (1 hr)

Turning a candlestick on a wood lathe, including centering and rounding the stock, and practicing various cuts. Safety equipment is provided.

Instructor: Lord Ferdinand of Strasburg.

Minimum Age: 16.

Class Materials: Please bring gloves (optional).

Japanese Laundry and Rice Starch (1 hr)

The manufacture of rice starch and its implementation in the Japanese laundry process.

Instructor: MiLady Helena Panier.

Minimum Age: 12.

Middle Eastern Sword Dancing (1 hr)

Sword maintenance and safety. Balancing a sword on head, and other body points. Dance moves, ending with some difficult ones. Handouts and props are available.

Instructor: Lady Ilanah MacKenzie.

Minimum Age: 13.

Bardic Round Table (1 hr)

For any performer. Story, song, joke, dance, juggling, etc. Share your ideas and ours, aspiring or accomplished. You will be encouraged to do a short performance.

Introduction to Middle Eastern Garb (2 hr)

Differences in Middle Eastern garb cuts. Turkish vs. Persian, tribal vs. urban.

Instructor: Her Excellency Kerare de Jorz.

Minimum Age: 12.

Class Materials: Please bring paper, pen, scissors.

Class Fee: $2.00-$5.00 (estimated).

Magna Carta, Feudal Contract (1 hr)

I. The Troubles of John.
II. The Charter, as Contract?
III. Historical and Philosophical Discussion.

Birth Control in the Middle Ages (1 hr)

Discussion of birth control techniques of the Middle Ages and in-period ideas of how pregnancy functions.

Instructor: Lady Zoe Chrysoloraina.

Herbs and Aromatics of the Medieval Era (1 hr)

Description of some herbs and aromatics of the Medieval Era. Will possibly make rose beads.

Feast-o-Cratting 101 (1 hr)

Fundamentals of running a feast. Includes setting up, serving, tearing down, and menu development.
